Residents can safely dispose of expired or unused medications during an event of the “Shed the Meds” program on Sunday.

State Sen. Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City) is sponsoring the program from 10 a.m. to noon at Sanitary District No. 6 of the Town of Hempstead, on 80 Cherry Valley Ave. in West Hempstead.

The program allows residents to drive in and drop off medications that might otherwise harm others or pollute the environment, officials said.

For more information, call Hannon's office at 516-739-1700.
