Sheehan scores winner for Massapequa
Dylan Sheehan scored what proved to be the game-winner with 6:30 left in the fourth quarter for Massapequa in an 8-6 victory at Syosset in Nassau Conference I boys lacrosse Thursday. Sheehan's goal gave the Chiefs (5-0), who trailed 5-3 at halftime, a 7-6 lead. Sheehan finished with three goals and four assists, Brent Lawless added two goals and one assist, and Joe Danaher made 15 saves. John Diaz led Syosset (3-1) with two goals and two assists.
West Babylon 11, Longwood 9: Andrew Schweigert, Jake Ahert and Mike Asher scored within a 2:30 span in the third quarter to give West Babylon (5-0) the lead for good, 9-8, in Division I. Ahert, Asher, Justin Fitzpatrick and Schweigert scored two goals apiece. Ryan Quinn made 15 saves, including several point-blank stops in the fourth quarter. Kevin Parker led Longwood (1-4) with three goals and one assist.
Sachem North 8, Smithtown East 6: Brandon Gamblin scored three goals with one assist for Sachem North (4-1). The game was tied at 5 after three quarters. Jack Gannon added two goals, and Gerald Logan made 12 saves for Sachem North (4-1). Ryan Desimone had three assists for Smithtown East (2-3).
Floyd 18, Brentwood 8: Sophomore Seth Newberg scored his first four varsity goals for Floyd (2-3). Luke Miller added four goals and three assists, and Frankie Sommers made 18 saves. Brentwood is 0-6.
East Islip 17, Commack 7: Senior Tyler Begley had a career-high 11 points (five goals, six assists) for East Islip (4-1). Kevin Wendel added three goals and two assists. David Murphy had two goals and two assists for Commack (1-5).
Chaminade 16, Iona Prep 5: Ryan Lukacovic scored two goals with three assists for Chaminade (5-0), which led 15-0 at halftime, in CHSAA. Iona Prep is 4-2.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Bethpage 10, East Meadow 9: Brianne DeNigris' scored the winner with 1:30 left in the game for Bethpage (6-2), which trailed 7-4 at halftime, in non-league. Danielle Bergersen and Linsday Cafiero each scored three goals, while DeNigris and Sam Mercurio scored two apiece. Emily Fitzsimmons and Ryan Meyer led East Meadow (3-6) with three apiece.
Carey 18, Great Neck South 9: Senior Daina Catanese scored eight of her career high 10 goals in a 12-4 first half for Carey (4-0) in Conference B-III. She also had the game's only assist. Nicole Annoscia and Marisa Baccarella each added two goals. Stephanie Ross led Great Neck South (2-3) with four goals.
Sewanhaka 12, West Hempstead 7: Senior Victoria Casso made a season-high 24 saves for Sewanhaka (4-0). Katlyn Dempsey and Lindsay Montoya each scored four goals, and Sabrina Orologio had four assists. Erin Guerrero led West Hempstead (0-3) with three goals and two assists.
Friends Academy 10, Clarke 8: Alix Heffron and Erica Sklar each scored three goals for Friends Academy (2-1) in Conference III. Nancy Karches made 10 saves. Nicki Gibaldi, Kristen Keller and Nicole Wahlig each scored twice for Clarke (0-5).
West Islip 17, Middle Country 12: Loren Ziegler had four goals, Kelsey Allen and Kylie Nowicki each had three goals and Lorraine Hodgson had a goal and eight assists for West Islip (5-1) in Division I.
Ward Melville 10, Sachem North 5: Sophomore Emily Rogers-Healion notched a season-high six points (three goals, three assists) for Ward Melville (4-2), which held Sachem North scoreless for the first 23 minutes of the second half. Erin McNulty made 12 saves for Sachem North (3-3).
