Shirley forum to focus on neighborhood watch

Suffolk County Legis. Kate Browning (WF-Shirley) and officers from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Seventh Precinct will hold an informational meeting about neighborhood watch groups Thursday
The meeting is intended to answer questions about how to form a neighborhood watch, what resources are available from local police, and what behavior to watch for, according to Browning’s chief of staff Joshua Slaughter.
“Every year we get several neighborhoods where there might be an issue on the block,” he said.
A neighborhood watch can be formed if about 10 to 14 households are interested, and typically the watch is formed when there are nearby problem homes with absentee landlords or criminal activity, Slaughter said.
The library is located at 407 William Floyd Pkwy. in Shirley.
