Stadler builds on French lead

Kevin Stadler increased his lead at the French Open to three strokes by shooting a 3-under-par 68 in the second round yesterday in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. The American had six birdies but also had a double bogey on his last hole for a 10-under 132 total.

Frenchman Victor Riu (67) was in second place, two strokes clear of 2012 winner Marcel Siem (72). Defending champion Graeme McDowell (69) and U.S. Open champion Martin Kaymer (68) are in fourth and 11th, respectively.

Navy veteran Hurley in front

Billy Hurley III shot a 7-under 63 to take a one-stroke lead after the second round of the PGA Tour's Greenbrier Classic in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. The former U.S. Navy officer, who said it was "pretty cool" that it occurred on America's birthday, is at 9-under 131, a stroke ahead of Kevin Chappell (65) and Chris Stroud (66). Troy Matteson had a 61 -- including only 19 putts, one shy of the tour record -- and is another shot back in fourth place.

Trail Blazers, Kaman agree

Free-agent center Chris Kaman has agreed to a two-year, $9.8-million deal with the Trail Blazers. The 7-footer has averaged 11.7 points and 7.9 rebounds in his 11-year NBA career . . . The Spurs say Manu Ginobili has a stress fracture of the lower fibula of his right leg that could knock him out of the upcoming World Cup of Basketball. It's unclear when Ginobili, who is scheduled to play for Argentina, was injured.

Red Bulls tie

Brad Davis scored on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to give the host Houston Dynamo a 2-2 tie with the Red Bulls. After Giles Barnes opened the scoring for Houston (5-10-3) with a header in the first minute, the Red Bulls (4-5-8) tied it in the 13th minute when Bradley Wright-Phillips ran down a long ball and put home a one-touch effort. Wright-Phillips made it 2-1 in the 72nd minute with his MLS-leading 14th goal.-- AP
