They ran four strong. And now they can call themselves All-Americans.

St. John the Baptist's boys distance medley relay team of Matt Zampariello, Hunter Burrell, Seitu Solomon and Brandon Camenzuli received the honors with a sixth-place finish (10:17.32) Friday night at the New Balance Nationals at The Armory.

That was less than a second shy of the NSCHSAA record set by Chaminade (10:16.88) last year.

Camenzuli ran the 1600-meter anchor leg in 4:19, holding off four rival teams in the final 600 meters.

"The kids ran tough," SJB coach David Wood said. "They didn't run for time. They just raced."

In the girls 5000, North Shore's Samantha Nadel took fifth place (16:59.02). Teammate Elizabeth Caldwell finished 15th in 17:39.91.

Ward Melville's distance medley relay team of Caroline O'Hea, Jeana Esernio, Kayla Monahan and Mary Kate Anselmini finished ninth in 12:14.79.
