Tips on choosing the holiday job that's right for you
One size does not fit all when it comes to holiday employment. Choosing the right job is as important as getting the job.
Know your personality type - and make sure it's cheery
According to Lisa Bordinat, senior vice president at Aon Hewitt, customer service is the No. 1 priority for holiday hiring. To impress hiring managers, job seekers need to express how they can relate to customers and the service at hand.
Know your physical limitations
Being a UPS "driver helper" is a physically demanding position, according to the shipper's website. The job involves lifting packages that typically weigh 25-35 pounds, and as much as 70 pounds. Retail and restaurant jobs, meanwhile, require hours of standing. So if you're prone to an achy back, you should consider other types of work.
Know the company's value and messages
K.C. Blonski, a director at workforce consulting firm AchieveGlobal, says that researching the company's background and history can help you stand out during an interview. Also, an understanding of corporate philosophy can help you decide whether the job would be a good fit.
