Town Focus: Smithtown

Legend has it that on the longest day of the year in 1665, Englishman Richard Smith hopped on his trusty bull, Whisper, and traced out the boundaries of current-day Smithtown. Historians agree that this tale is mostly bull. Records indicate Smith was given the land. The statue, unveiled in 1941, still stands today, as seen on Aug. 5, 2010. Credit: Colleen Harrington
