TV opens golden door for Hesta Prynn
Hesta Prynn isn't a big football fan, but she isn't going to forget this year's Super Bowl.
Verizon picked the Dix Hills native's excellent "Turn It Gold" single as the theme for its Super Bowl commercial, and the massive exposure is bringing Prynn loads of new fans.
Before the Verizon campaign -- which, unlike many Super Bowl spots, is still running -- Prynn was selling a few hundred downloads a month, as she worked on new material. After the campaign, she has been selling thousands of downloads a week, mostly of the "Turn It Gold" remix by Lion of Ido's Ido Zmishlany, which is used in the commercial.
"It has been awesome," Prynn says, adding that she has also been selling more T-shirts and other merchandise from her website. "There are so many ways to get your music out there today, but it's hard to beat television."
Prynn is currently working on new music, including an EP that she will likely release in April. However, she has to balance studio time, as well as her DJ career, with work on TV projects and hosting duties on the YouTube Network's new music show "My Ish."
"The commercial has opened a lot of doors for me," she says. "There are a lot more people interested in licensing my music, and the caliber of producer interested in working with me is much higher."
"I've been doing this for a minute, and there have been times when things were good and times when things were not so good," she says. "It feels really good to get a win and to have everyone in the industry notice you getting a win."
Kind of like winning the Super Bowl.
