As "Twilight: New Moon" is set to open, we asked Long Island teens whether they're with the vampires on Team Edward or with the werewolves on Team Jacob.

Die-hard "Twilight" fans will begin flocking to movie theaters this week to see the second installment of the four-book vampire-falls-in-love-with-girl-next-door saga.

In "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," teen vampire Edward Cullen will leave normal high school girl Bella Swan, ostensibly to protect her from the dangers of his dark world. In will step Jacob Black, a teenage werewolf who also is in love with the now-heartbroken and mourning Bella.

Fans - mostly tween and teen girls, but some boys as well - have squared off into two distinct camps: Team Edward and Team Jacob.

TEAM EDWARD

Colleen Tamargo (L), 17, senior, Massapequa High: "Edward all the way. He's more mysterious. He was going to kill himself when he thought Bella was dead. He didn't want to be with anyone else. I don't really like Jacob that much. He's always jealous."

Brittany Calcagno (R), 17, senior, Massapequa High: "Edward didn't hit on the waitress who was flirting with him. He was more interested in Bella. We made Team Edward T-shirts for the first movie ... My favorite quote from the book was, 'You are my life now.'"

TEAM EDWARD

Brittany Ingram (L), 13, eighth grade, Floral Park Memorial High School: "Edward's more romantic. Jacob just kind of steals her away. It's not like the fairy tale that everybody wishes for, where he dazzles you; and it's the full courtship, like in the 1800s."

Cassandra Requena (R), 13, 8th grade, Floral Park: ?He?s more gorgeous. They make him seem like the perfect person to choose over more of a monster, Jacob.?

TEAM EDWARD

Geena Portelli (L), 16, sophomore, Farmingdale High School: "His cheekbones and his face. He's like the most gorgeous boy I've ever seen. A vampire is so sexy. His aura. The mysteriousness. He sparkles in the sunlight. Werewolves don't do that."

Rozina Portelli (R), 17, senior, Farmingdale High School: ?He?s very handsome. He?s very sensitive and he?s caring.?

TEAM JACOB

Zarifa Huq (L), 16, junior, Hicksville High: "Jacob is better-looking. I can't stand the character of Edward. He's stiff. He's a two-dimensional, flat character. A marble statue."

Taryn Murray (R), 16, junior, Hicksville High: "Edward is too protective. He follows Bella around. When he doesn't know where she is, he follows her scent. Edward, he's dead. You don't want to be with someone who's dead."

TEAM EDWARD

Andrew Valenski, 16, junior, Massapequa High: "I think Edward was more important to the plot of the story. I'm more into it because I like reading. Without Edward, the whole story wouldn't be put together. You could substitute other conflicts for Jacob."

TEAM JACOB

Batul Lukmanji, 16, junior, Valley Stream North: "I like how he treats Bella. He's not clingy. If she wants her space, he ... leaves her alone. Edward is always attached to her ... kind of annoying. He cares ... too much."

TEAM JACOB

Nicole Echeverría (L), 16, junior, Valley Stream North: "Falling in love with your best friend is a lot more likely than falling in love with an eternal vampire. It just makes more sense."

Caroline Barilla, 16, Valley Stream: ?When Jacob realized she really liked Edward, he let her go. But when Edward realized she had feelings for Jacob, he freaked out. If you love someone, you should let them do what they want.?

TEAM JACOB

Brianna Robertazzi (L), 14, freshman, Patchogue-Medford High School: "Werewolves are really cool. Everything is about vampires now. I was at Borders.com and every teen book is about vampires. It's kind of cool that you get a better monster."

Jessica Freda, 13, freshman, Patchogue Medford High School: ?Jacob?s just hotter than Edward. Edward?s a little bit overprotective. We learned about werewolves from reading the book. Before, all we knew was they come out at midnight.?

TEAM EDWARD

Kathleen Wright (L), 15, sophomore, Massapequa High School: ?Edward?s hot. His hair.?

Karina Limanni, 15, sophomore, Massapequa High School: ?I like Edward because I like the actor in the movie. But I also like the character in the book. He?s different from everyone else. He?s more mature."

TEAM JACOB

Marisa Pascale, 15, sophomore, Massapequa High: ?They were like best friends from the beginning. Edward left her. Jacob said he would never leave her or do anything to hurt her.?
