In the silent movie age, only Charlie Chaplin rivaled Buster Keaton as a comedian and moviemaker. Keaton's most acclaimed movie, "The General," is rated the 18th best movie of all time by the American Film Institute. The only other silent movie to rate higher on the list is Chaplin's "City Lights," at No. 11.
"The General," released in 1926, is an adventure-comedy set during the Civil War. It features battle scenes, train chases and iconic stunts that are still thrilling today.
On Friday, July 11, you can see "The General" as it was meant to be seen -- in a setting with other film enthusiasts. East Meadow Library, 1886 Front St., is screening the movie at 1 p.m. The movie will be introduced by Long Island-based film expert and silent film buff John Carpenter.
Admission is free. For more information, call 516-794-2570.
