Coastal flood advisory issued for parts of Long Island

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory for southern Nassau and southwest Suffolk counties from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Areas along the South Shore of Long Island will be most impacted, forecasters said.

Ocean beaches could see moderate erosion as high tide is expected to be two feet higher than it normally would be.

"On top of that you're going to have your 5- to 8-foot waves on the ocean-facing beaches," said Dan Hoffmann, meteorologist with the weather service, located in Upton.

Vulnerable roads along the shore as well as low-lying areas could be impacted by the height of the storm tide.

"People that are in vulnerable areas just need to be aware that their basements could flood and there could be street closures at the time of high tide," Hoffmann said.

Temperatures Saturday evening are expected to drop to the low 30s.

Sunday is expected to be sunny, with temperatures reaching the upper 40s to 50 degrees.
