Hot Wednesday. Hot Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday for Nassau and western Suffolk counties, meaning heat and humidity are likely to make it feel like 100 to 104 degrees for at least two consecutive hours.

With 90-degree temperatures again forecast for Wednesday, an official heat wave -- defined as three days in a row of 90-degree weather -- is likely.

At 12:56 p.m. Tuesday, the temperature hit 90 degrees in Islip where the record for this date, set in 1997, is 94 degrees.

Still, relief is on its way as showers and thunderstorms, some with the potential to produce damaging wind gusts and possibly hail, are forecast to move through the area Wednesday, likely starting around lunchtime and lasting through early evening, said David Stark, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton.

While Thursday's temperatures are forecast to be in the mid- to upper-80s, "there'll be a significant drop in humidity," he said. Look for low humidity and temperatures in the low- to mid-80s Friday and through the weekend, he said.
