It's a cold start on Long Island, giving way to daily highs in the upper 50s with a mix of sun and clouds Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, the National Weather Service said. Credit: News 12

Above-normal temperatures are on the way Wednesday and Thursday, forecasters said.

“Temperatures are going up the next few days,” News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said.

As high pressure moves offshore Tuesday night, southwesterly winds will usher in warmer air, the National Weather Service said.

“High temperatures on Wednesday will range from the mid-60s along the coast to around 70 across the New York City metro area,” the weather service said.

Thursday’s highs are expected to range from the upper 60s to mid-70s but, ahead of an approaching cold front, “showers and thunderstorms will overspread the area from west to east” in the afternoon, the weather service said.

After a frosty start on Tuesday, daily highs across Long Island pushed into the upper 50s.

Nighttime conditions Tuesday are expected to be cloudy with lows just under 50 degrees. Normal overnight lows for this time of year are 41 degrees, Hoffman said.
