Warmer weather in store for the week

Long Islanders setting their clocks back an hour might think they're also headed back toward spring since daytime temperatures will be in the 60s Sunday and warmer weather will remain for the rest of the week.

There'll be sprinkles here and there on Sunday when it will be mostly cloudy with only breaks of sun, but highs will reach the mid-60s and things don't cool off until nighttime when it will be in the 40s.

"We're running just a bit above normal (for the week)," said Jay Engle, a spokesman for the National Weather Service at Upton. He said that the normal for Nov. 1 in Islip is 58 degrees for the high and 47 for the low at night.

"Basically we have a ridge -- an area of high pressure -- built along the East Coast that's providing above normal temperatures," Engle said. "It's been cool and wet out West."

Monday will be mostly sunny with a high of 62 and a low of 48 at night then the daytime temperature climbs even higher on Tuesday when it reaches 65.

"It'll be sunny (Tuesday) and we'll get a few of them (days with highs in the 60s)," Engle said.

More highs in the mid-60s are predicted for Wednesday when at night it will be clear and 47.

Thursday will bring more sunny skies and highs in the upper 60s. Lows at night will be in the lower 50s.

A sunny start to the weekend is ahead for Friday when some highs again will reach the mid to upper 60s. Nighttime lows will be in the lower 50s.
