Long Island weather: Fourth of July will be ‘dry, sunny, clear’

Warm temperatures and clear skies mean conditions are ideal for barbecuing, beachgoing and fireworks-watching on Long Island this Independence Day.
“Oh, yeah,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Ciemnecki, based in Upton. “Dry, sunny, clear.”
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Matt Hammer predicted a “spectacular” afternoon, but warned that the UV Index would be very high, with sunburn time as low as 15 minutes.
Daytime temperatures will reach the high 80s, with early clouds giving way to a mostly sunny afternoon. After sunset, temperatures should dip into the 70s, and into the 60s overnight.
The Wednesday morning commute looks clear, with a gentle northeast wind and daytime temperatures in the high 70s.
Rain could hit the area Thursday night, with unsettled conditions lasting into Saturday.
Tuesday’s temperatures are forecast to be slightly above average, while Wednesday’s and Thursday’s are forecast slightly below.
