Long Island weather: High temps in the 40s, chance for showers

Temperatures across Long Island warm slightly on Tuesday, and there’s a chance for showers, starting in the afternoon, the National Weather Service said.
Partly sunny skies with increasing clouds, said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman of Tuesday’s outlook.
Hoffman called for highs in the mid 40s, about 6 to 8 degrees higher than normal for this time of year.
The service’s Upton office called for about a 20 percent chance of showers after 4 p.m. Hoffman said scattered showers also are possible between 7 p.m. and midnight.
Winds are steady throughout, at 10 to 15 mph from the south southeast during the daytime, then shifting west northwest at about the same speeds overnight.
Morning clouds Wednesday give way to mostly sunny skies with highs in the low 40s, Hoffman said.
