Long Island weather: Rain on Saturday, then sunny Sunday
Just as Long Islanders have settled into a string of pleasant, sunny days with highs of around 80 degrees, along comes Saturday.
In the overnight hours and into Saturday, winds from the south-southwest will spread “a hot and humid air mass” throughout the region, resulting in patchy fog in the morning, the National Weather Service said.
Highs in the mid- to upper 80s are expected for Long Island, feeling warmer, though, thanks to the humidity.
“If you have outdoors plans including backyard parties, be prepared for wet weather,” said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman. Noon to about 7 p.m. will be the prime time for scattered showers and storms, he said.
There’s “a marginal risk of thunderstorms” mostly for the afternoon to early evening, the weather service said in a hazardous weather statement, with locally damaging winds the main threat.
But then, along comes another turnaround to rescue the weekend. A cold front moves through Saturday evening, with “a much less humid air mass” spreading across the region Sunday, the service says.
Look for “abundant sunshine” Sunday, with less humidity and highs mostly in the mid-80s.
