Seasonal, dry and mostly sunny weather is expected across Long Island this weekend — with a weak front creeping in overnight Saturday to make Sunday a bit chilly, the National Weather Service said.

Temperatures will warm up close to 60 degrees on Saturday, said Peter Wichrowski, a meteorologist with the weather service. The normal high for this time of year at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip is 57, he said.

“We’ll be a few degrees above normal,” Wichrowski said. “We’ll see maybe a few passing clouds from time to time, but we’re really looking at a dry several days.”

Saturday night, temperatures will drop to the low 40s on eastern Long Island, including the pine barrens, and will dip to the upper 40s for the western areas, Wichrowski said.

As Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, sunset times across the Island will be before 5 p.m., News 12 Long Island meteorologist Matt Hammer said. It is a good time, while turning clocks back one hour Saturday, to check the batteries in smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms, Hammer said.

For Sunday, the weather “looks good” for the New York City Marathon, Hammer said, with temperatures in the 50s. A breeze will pick up and northerly gusts may be up to 20 mph, Wichrowski said.

All of Long Island remains in a drought, Wichrowski said. “We’re still dry,” he said. “We haven’t had much in the way of precipitation, so there hasn’t been much changes.”

On Monday, the high is expected to reach 53 degrees, Hammer said, while Tuesday warms up a bit to near 60 degrees. The mostly sunny weather continues through the week as temperatures strive to reach the 60 degree mark.
