Long Island weather: Skies clearing Wednesday, temps near 60

Mild temperatures and sunny skies are expected across Long Island Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.
Daily highs are near 60 degrees, about 5 degrees above normal for this time of year, with winds from the west at 8 to 11 mph.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Matt Hammer called the outlook for Wednesday gorgeous, with the above normal temperatures and sunshine.
“You’ll want to try to get outside over the next few days because we have major weather changes on the way,” Hammer said.
Conditions start to shift Sunday with incoming rain and chilly temperatures, he said.
Wednesday’s sunshine comes after a day of much-needed rain. Rain totals Tuesday showed more than 1.5 inches fell in several areas, including 1.53 inches recorded at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, the service said.
Hammer said Wednesday night turns chilly, with lows in the low 40s, and a few clouds moving in.
Expect another mostly sunny day on Thursday with daily highs again pushing close to 60 and winds from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph, he said.
