A stretch of dry, warmer-than-normal conditions continues for Long Island, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

Morning clouds give way to gradual clearing and increased winds for both Nassau and Suffolk counties, the service’s Upton office said.

Daily highs push into the mid to upper 60s with west winds at 6 to 11 mph and shifting north and increasing to 13 to 18 mph during the afternoon hours.

Overall dry conditions, in addition to low relative humidity levels, mean an elevated risk for the spread of brush fires, the service said in a red flag warning, which lasts from noon until 8 p.m.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said residents should be careful with any open flame. “Gusty winds and dry weather conditions can lead to brush fires,” he said.

Hoffman said skies turn mostly sunny toward Tuesday afternoon with breezy conditions.

Overnight, temperatures drop into the upper 30s and low 40s, with skies clearing again.

Wednesday morning opens with sunshine, then daily highs reaching the 60s.

That’s the trend for the rest of the week and into the weekend, Hoffman said.

“More dry weather and temperatures above normal into the weekend,” he said.

There is a slight chance for showers Friday night into Saturday morning, but otherwise conditions remain mostly dry.
