Long Island weather: Mild to moderate flooding in coastal areas Friday after early rain

The National Weather Service issued advisories warning of "mild to moderate" flooding in some areas of Long Island, overnight and into Friday.

The service warned of flooding in "vulnerable coastal locales" along Suffolk's South Shore and along Peconic and Gardiners bays for Friday. 

Coastal flood advisories were in effect for high tides overnight in vulnerable areas of the western Long Island Sound, as well as the Great South Bay and Jamaica Bay, the service said.

Meteorologist have noted that as we enter a full moon phase, high tides could be a foot or two above normal.

Friday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a chance of rain, mostly in the early part of the day. Look for gusty winds and temperatures in the  upper 40s.

The first weekend of spring will be dry, but will start out with unseasonably cold temperatures on Saturday, between 40 and 45 degrees.  Winds, ranging from 15 to 20 mph, could gust up to 40 mph, forecasters said.

Sunday will be the better day to head outside this weekend, being mostly sunny with temperatures reaching into the 50s.
