Wednesday’s a warm-up day for Long Island.

After a two-day cold snap, daily high temperatures climb toward 40 degrees across Nassau and Suffolk counties, the National Weather Service said.

The service’s Upton office called for sunny skies with calm winds from the west at 5 to 9 mph. Wind chill values will make it feel like between 15 and 25 degrees, the service said.

“Here comes the warm-up,” News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said. “We do have a chance at a record high on Sunday, when warm air moves in and temperatures will reach into the 50s.”

Skies clear Wednesday night with lows again in the 20s, Hoffman said. Those conditions give way to a sunny Thursday with daily highs in the low to mid 40s.

Hoffman also said conditions remain dry, with a slight chance for showers on Saturday.

Temperatures on Friday and Saturday will be in the low to mid 40s again, with clouds moving in on Friday night.

And although the clouds linger until Sunday, which should also include rain and gusty winds, temperatures remain mild.

The record daily high for Sunday is 56 degrees in 2000, and both Hoffman and the service’s Upton office said that mark could be in jeopardy.
