More snow is on its way to the Long Island area this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Starting Friday evening and lasting until Saturday afternoon, Long Island will be under a winter storm watch, according to the National Weather Service. The statement called for a potential of 4 to 9 inches of snowfall across southern portions of the metropolitan area.
The snow will likely develop west to east Friday night and continue into Saturday until tapering off late in the day.
According to the National Weather Service, there is still uncertainty about the exact path of the storm.
"Right now the track is still uncertain," meteorologist Joe Pollina said. "It will be cold enough to accumulate, but as far as how much will accumulate, it's hard to say right now."
For Thursday, skies are expected to be clear with temperatures in the mid 30s with 10- to 15-mile-per-hour winds. Temperatures will fall into the low 20s or high teens tonight.
Slick weather conditions contributed to a fatal car crash in Melville Wednesday, according to Suffolk County police.
A West Babylon man was killed when he apparently lost control of his car on a slippery road in Melville and crashed into a tree, police said.
It appears a high rate of speed and the slick conditions contributed to the crash, police said.
