Storms forecast for LI; flash flood advisory in the city

A flash flood warning has been issued for New York City, according to the National Weather Service, and rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to roll through Long Island late Wednesday evening.
Peter Wichrowski, a meteorologist with the Upton-based weather service, said he doesn't expect extreme weather on Long Island Wednesday night, but that Nassau County and parts of western and northern Suffolk County should see rain and thunderstorms.
In the early evening, areas of New York City were drenched in heavy rainfall and some gusting winds. The flash flood warning lasts there until 9 p.m.
That same system was expected to hit Nassau and western Suffolk about 8 p.m., the meteorologist said. But Wichrowski said he expects the storm to weaken before it gets to the eastern parts of Suffolk later Wednesday night.
A severe thunderstorm watch is also still in effect in Nassau until 9 p.m., Wichrowski said.
