Thunderstorms will hit Long Island on Saturday night, but taper off around 10 p.m., with rain lasting until early Sunday, forecasters said.
With thunderstorms comes the possibility of small, pea-sized hail, said meteorologist Joe Pollina at the National Weather Service's Upton office.
After the thunderstorms, showers are expected to last through midnight in Nassau County and until about 2 a.m. in Suffolk County, Pollina said.
Temperatures were in the 40s on parts of Long Island, including Islip, Farmingdale and Shirley, Pollina said Saturday about 8 p.m.
Sunday is expected to be mainly dry, and temperatures will probably be in the upper 50s, Pollina said. In Nassau, skies are expected to be clear, with some clouds developing in the morning but decreasing later in the afternoon. Suffolk will see cloudy skies, but later in the day, the sun is expected to break through, Pollina said. Temperatures are expected to be cooler for the Island's eastern areas, including the Twin Forks.
Pollina said Saturday evening about half-an-inch of rain had fallen at the Upton office.
