Where has Bret “The Hitman” Hart been? Who knows and why bother worrying. Where ever Hart has been since the 900th episode of Raw, the WWE and Hart are better off apart at this point. There’s no need to continuously book Hart on Raw when there is no need for him.

I’m not just talking about not booking him in matches. We all know his in-ring career has been over for a long time and there’s no chance he will ever have a “real match.” But there’s no reason to have Hart on Raw in a continuous role. That means no Raw GM position and not as manager for The Hart Dynasty.

Hart returned earlier this year and brought “closure” to the Montreal Screw Job in 1997. He had his match with Vince McMahon – the only one to date with the WWE – and defeated him. Fans got a big thrill seeing the Hitman and it’s safe to assume Hart was elated to be back. It was a great moment and as a wrestling fan, it was epic TV.

And that’s where it should’ve ended. Yes, it was great seeing Hart named apart of Team WWE heading into Summerslam to face Nexus. However, he never made it into the match and this would become a reoccurring theme every time he was booked in a match from that point on. This isn’t the way a legendary figure should be used. He should have went out after beating McMahon at Wrestlemania.

It will not work if he ends up having a weekly or event monthly role on Raw. Retired wrestlers do not have successful runs doing this. After Stone Cold Steve Austin’s retirement, he had a sheriff-type role on Raw to oppose Eric Bischoff who was the general manager. The role got old quick for Austin. How many stunners can he deliver week after week before it gets boring? It was great when he was a pro-wrestler, but not in a non-wrestling role.

Shawn Michaels was the Commissioner of Raw for a brief time during the Attitude Era. It didn’t work because he was such a big figure in a mundane role that isn’t made for stars who achieved a tremendous level of success like HBK or Hart.

The Hart Dynasty is a boring tag team when it comes to personality. Can they use Bret? Sure, he can put them over and they can use the fan support. But in the end, Hart may take away from the young tag team. They need to make it on their own and when ever they’re out there on TV it needs to be about them. Not the WWE Hall of Famer.

I’m not saying Hart should be cast out like a leper. He should make yearly appearances and show his face at special events like the 1,000th episode of Raw (hopefully it’s better than the 900th episode). That’s the job WWE legends should be doing for the company. Leave the wrestling to the stars of today. When nostalgia is needed we will place a call to Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
