Yambo helps St. John bowling advance
Cyle Yambo bowled 255 in Game 3 of a 665 series as No. 2 St. John the Baptist topped third-seeded Chaminade, 2-1, Friday in a CHSAA boys bowling semifinal.
Justin Figueroa and Chris Hall each had high games of 224 for SJB (12-2) in its 1,110-1,105, 1,251-1,025 and 1,162-1,179 win. SJB will face No. 1 Holy Trinity in the final at 4 p.m. on Monday at Farmingdale Lanes.
Holy Trinity 3, St. Dominic 0: Tom Jakubowski rolled a 628 series and Don Crispyn added a 625 series to lead No. 1 Holy Trinity (11-1) to a 1,248-960, 1,230-987, 1,033-901, in a CHSAA semifinal.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Freeport 65, Farmingdale 60: Jere Brown had 17 points and four steals to lead Freeport (7-2) in Nassau Conference AA-I. Cedric Smiley hit a layup to give Freeport a 63-60 lead with 25 seconds left.
Bellmore JFK 42, Long Beach 39: Will Colon hit a layup with 2:30 left to put JFK (7-4) up 36-35 in Conference AA-III. Brian O'Gorman had six of his of 10 points during a 12-4 fourth and Mike Teich hit a three with 50 seconds left to give JFK a four-point cushion.
Westbury 63, Division 59: James Crain hit a three with under a minute left in overtime to give Westbury (7-3) a 62-59 lead in Conference A-I. Tim Quashie had 27 points and a driving layup with 15 seconds left in the fourth that tied the score at 56 to force OT for Westbury.
Seaford 58, Roosevelt 55: Robert Goldstein had 26 points, including a three-pointer with 15 seconds left in regulation to force overtime for Seaford (6-2) in Conference A-IV.
Cold Spring Harbor 49, Oyster Bay 46: Luke O'Connell hit a three-pointer with less than a minute left to force overtime for Cold Spring Harbor (4-7) in Conference BC. Anthony Terraciano led CSH with 14 points.
Brentwood 61, Floyd 56: Donovan Stewart had 18 points, including a three-poitner with 1:24 left to give Brentwood (6-5) a 55-51 lead in Suffolk League I.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hicksville 31, Herricks 27: Marissa Mertens had 13 points, including two free throws with 1:15 left to give Hicksville (5-5) a 27-25 lead in Nassau Conference AA-II.
Mepham 56, Valley Stream Central 47: Nicole Castaldo had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Mepham (10-1) in Conference AA-III. Kristen O'Brien added 13 points and Mary Galgano scored 12.
Ward Melville 47, Sachem East 39: Caysea Cohen had 19 points, including four free throws late in the fourth quarter to help seal the win for Ward Melville (7-4) in Suffolk League I.
Stony Brook 48, Ross 41: Natalie Istrati had 19 points and 13 rebounds and Brannon Burke grabbed 20 rebounds for Stony Brook (8-1) in League VIII.
