Steve Zolezzi scored both of his goals during a key third-quarter stretch yesterday as No. 11 Lindenhurst upset sixth-seeded Bay Shore, 8-6, in a Suffolk Class A first-round game.

Trailing 5-3 at the break, Zolezzi's goals sparked a 4-0 third quarter that gave the Bulldogs a 7-5 lead after three. Zolezzi's second goal tied the score at 5 with 7:50 left in the third. Keith Laclair and Chris Caiazza each followed with a goal.

Bay Shore scored with 3:21 left in the fourth to pull within 7-6, but Caiazza answered with 2:27 remaining for the final margin. Joe Hergenhan led the Lindenhurst defense with 16 saves. Lindenhurst (11-6) plays at No. 3 Smithtown West in a quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Smithtown East 10, East Islip 7: Ryan Desimone had two goals and four assists and Brian Balkam had 15 saves to lead No. 8 Smithtown East (10-7) in a Class A first-round game. Smithtown East will play at No. 1 West Islip in a quarterfinal on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Carey 12, Plainedge 10: Peter Nicholls had two goals, including a score off a feed from Matt Robison with 1:16 left to provide the final margin for BI-4 Carey (11-6) in a Nassau Class B first-round game. Jake Robison led Carey with five goals and three assists. Carey will play Manhasset in a quarterfinal at Hofstra on Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Roslyn 10, Hewlett 7: David Nauheim had 10 ball controls and Michael Lefcourt stopped 20 of 27 shots to lead BI-5 Roslyn (10-6) in a Nassau Class B first-round game. It was the first playoff win in school history for Roslyn, which plays BI-1 Garden City in a quarterfinal on Monday at 8 p.m. at Hofstra.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Port Washington 16, Long Beach 7:Jackie Froccaro had five goals and an assist and her cousin, Alexa Froccaro, added four scores and two assists to lift No. 3 Port Washington (14-3) in a Class A quarterfinal. Danielle Rosmarin had three goals for Port Washington, which plays No. 2 Massapequa in a semifinal on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Denton Avenue.

Our Lady of Mercy 15, Kellenberg 10:Courntey Chmil had four goals and three assists and Sara Jackson had three goals and four assists for No. 5 Our Lady of Mercy (6-8) in a CHSAA AA quarterfinal. OLMA will play at No. 1 St. Anthony's in a semifinal Saturday at 5:45.

St. John the Baptist 18, Holy Trinity 6: Danielle Jaycox had six goals and four assists and Jill May added five goals and three assists to lead No. 3 St. John the Baptist (12-8) in a CHSAA quarterfinal. Morgan Jaycox added three goals and two assists in the win. It's the first trip to the semifinal for the Cougars, who will face No. 2 Sacred Heart Saturday.

St. Dominic 17, St. Francis Prep 3: Sophomore Jordan Coyne scored a career-high seven goals to lead No. 1 St. Dominic (11-6) to its third consecutive CHSAA Class A final. Shirley Salazar made 13 saves for St. Dominic, which will face No. 2 Mary Louis Academy in the final at Tuesday at 3 p.m. at C.W. Post.
