Alex Rodriguez, Jorge Posada and Barry Bonds

Greetings from Camden Yards, my favorite "new" stadium. Yankee Land is relatively calm, in what - as we know - has been a tumultuous week.

--Alex Rodriguez, coming off his two-homer night, said he plans to get his hip checked out at some point, probably over this upcoming Yankees homestand. A-Rod and the Yankees were, it looks now, overly optimistic when the team broke camp.

At the time, the thought was that A-Rod was healthier than he had been since before his 2009 hip procedure. A-Rod's performance so far says something else. He's not awful, but not transcendent, for sure.

--Jorge Posada is sitting against Baltimore starter Zach Britton, a lefty. It's Posada's third straight benching against a left-hander, and the third lefty the Yankees have faced in the last four days.

Derek Jeter is the DH tonight. Joe Girardi said that, because the Yankees have such a long stretch - they play 16 games in 16 days -he wants to use the DH spot as a resting spot for regulars like Jeter when a lefty starts for the opponent.

It makes sense, but of course, Posada (0-for-24 against lefties) is now being fazed into a platoon DH. If he hits righties well, as he did last night, then he'll be worth keeping around.

--The next Barry Bonds hearing has been postponed until June 17, thereby giving fist-shaking moralists another four weeks to use Bonds as an example of everything wrong in the world.

--Josh Hamilton will start playing in minor-league rehabilitation games tonight.

--Washington general manager Mike Rizzo said that stud prospect Bryce Harper won't play in the major leagues this year.
