Andres Torres placed on 15-day DL

Mets centerfielder Andres Torres was put on the 15-day disabled list.
According to the Mets, Kirk Nieuwenhuis has been called up from Triple-A Buffalo to fill the centerfield spot and will be at the ballpark in time for Saturday’s matinee against Atlanta.
Torres, who scored the game-winning run in Thursday’s 1-0 Opening Day win over the Braves, strained his left calf for the second time in two weeks when he tried to chase down Tyler Pastornicky’s triple off the right-center wall in the seventh inning.
After the game, manager Terry Collins speculated a move would have to be made in order to replace the injured outfielder.
Nieuwenhuis, 24, batted .298 in 53 games for the Bisons last year with a .403 on-base percentage and a .908 on-base plus slugging percentage.
