The St. Louis Cardinals, who have faced pitching questions all the way back to spring training, pulled of a three-team trade yesterday to beef up their rotation with righthander Edwin Jackson.

The Cardinals sent Colby Rasmus and two relievers to Toronto. Jackson had been dealt to the Blue Jays a few hours earlier by the White Sox, who also sent utility player Mark Teahen to the Blue Jays in exchange for reliever Jason Frasor and pitching prospect Zach Stewart.

Jackson has been dealt seven times since being drafted by the Dodgers as a 17-year-old in 2001.

"I was born on the move, being a military brat," Jackson said. "My whole life is pick up and make new friends."

Besides Jackson, the Cardinals acquired relievers Octavio Dotel and Marc Rzepczynski, outfielder Corey Patterson and three players to be named or cash. Along with Rasmus, the Blue Jays got pitchers P.J. Walters, Trever Miller and Brian Tallet.

In other trade news, the Atlanta Braves acquired veteran catcher Wil Nieves from the Milwaukee Brewers for cash after losing All-Star Brian McCann to an oblique injury.

Giants 2, Phillies 1: Matt Cain (9-6) pitched into the eighth inning to outduel Cole Hamels (12-6) at Citizens Bank Park.

White Sox 2, Tigers 1: Alejandro De Aza hit a two-run homer in his first at-bat of the season for host Chicago.

Blue Jays 3, Orioles 0: Ricky Romero (8-9) came within two outs of a complete game to win for the first time in five starts for host Toronto.
