Of the 30 MLB teams, 24 of them rule their own cities. Only New York, Chicago and Los Angeles divide their fan base with multiple teams.

What if the two New York teams were forced to combine based on the players currently on each roster. Who would start at each position?

Yes, it's a hypothetical scenario, but have some fun with the idea as we await Thursday's season opener for the Mets and Friday's start to the Yankees' season.

Here's the catch to our game: they would also have to combine payrolls. The Mets' 2012 payroll will be approximately $91 million -- an almost $70 million slash from last year’s payroll, while the Yankees will approach $210 million. Based on this, we'll average the two and call it $150 million payroll.
