DETROIT -- This one didn't quite register on the breaking-news bombshell scale.

"I have a job," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday when asked about the Red Sox's apparent front-office job opening.

Boston general manager Theo Epstein, according to multiple reports, has agreed to a five-year deal to run the baseball operations for the Cubs.

Cashman's current three-year contract expires Oct. 31, but he is expected to re-sign with the Yankees soon.

As for his organization's chief rival having an opening at the general manager position -- which is expected to be filled by Red Sox assistant GM Ben Cherington -- Cashman declined to comment until there's something official.

Cashman also said the organization granted the Los Angeles Angels permission to interview senior director of pro personnel Billy Eppler and vice president of amateur scouting Damon Oppenheimer for their vacant general manager position.
