No, Brian Cashman doesn't hold Fox broadcaster Joe Buck responsible for the bizarre injury Alex Rodriguez suffered during batting practice Saturday.

"It's the player's job to pay attention to what's going on between the white lines," the general manager said before last night's game, in which A-Rod returned to the lineup. "If you don't, stuff like that can happen."

Rodriguez suffered a lower left leg contusion after taking a Lance Berkman one-hopper when he turned to give Buck a quick hello. "There's always a lot of activity going on in the stands, off to the side, wherever," Cashman said. "You have to pay attention."

Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base before being replaced in the ninth by Ramiro Peña. "He was a little stiff,'' Joe Girardi said after the game. "We'll see how he is [Monday].''

As for Berkman, who entered last night's game at 2-for-22 since arriving at the trade deadline, Cashman said he isn't concerned. "He's a professional hitter," he said. "This is a small sample size. I don't put much into it."

Berkman then picked up hits in his first three at-bats.

Aceves' rehab outings

Joe Girardi said Alfredo Aceves will throw one rehab inning Tuesday night and two innings Friday, although the location of Aceves' outings had not been determined. Tomorrow's appearance is likely to be at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but the team will be in Toledo, Ohio, on Friday. Double-A Trenton is home Friday, making that the likely place. Aceves went on the disabled list May 12 with a strained lower back.

Posada gets to catch

Jorge Posada likely would have sat last night in favor of Francisco Cervelli, but with A.J. Burnett scratched because of back spasms, Posada was behind the plate. Phil Hughes is scheduled to pitch this afternoon, but Posada typically doesn't catch the day after a night game, meaning Cervelli potentially could catch Hughes and then catch Burnett Tuesday night in Texas.
