Derek Jeter passes Carl Yastrzemski for seventh on all-time hits list

Derek Jeter has now surpassed former Red Sox great Carl Yastrzemski to take sole possession of No. 7 on MLB's all-time hits list with 3,420 in his career.
Jeter hit a single to right-centerfield off Rangers ace Yu Darvish in the seventh inning Monday to break a tie with Yaz on the list. Jeter finished the game at 3-for-4 with a walk in the Yankees' 4-2 loss.
The Yankees captain collected his 3,419th hit, a ground-rule double to rightfield, in the top of the third inning to tie Yaz. Jeter singled in the first inning for hit No. 3,418.
Honus Wagner, the only shortstop with more career hits than Jeter, is No. 6 on the all-time hits list with 3,430.
Jeter reached the 3,419 mark in 1,613 fewer plate appearances than Yastrzemski.
