The Good, Bad and Ugly (for the Yankees) of AL East Opening Day

 The Good:

• Jason Frasor blew the save for Toronto against Texas, giving up four hits, a walk and two earned runs in just 1/3 of an inning.
• Josh Beckett was once again hittable by the Yanks. Of course, they also, once again, blew whatever lead they got off Beckett.
• Kevin Millwood only gave up two runs, but he gave up nine hits and a walk in five innings. That can’t last. Welcome to the AL East.

The Bad:

• Shaun Marcum had a perfect game going until the seventh against an excellent Texas lineup. If he’s finally healthy, he’s going to be good. No Doc Halladay, but certainly someone you won’t want to face.
• Adam Lind was 3-for-3 and Vernon Wells was 3-for-4, both had homers. Could Wells be back to his old self? If so, that could quickly put this line into “the ugly.”
• The new guys for Boston have had some good games and big hits. Scutaro, Beltre and Cameron look like good pickups early on.
• Adam Jones and Matt Weiters each had a couple hits and a home run for the Orioles.

The Ugly:

• Rafael Soriano made it interesting, giving up two hits and a walk in the ninth inning, but he still managed to keep things scoreless, earning the win against Baltimore. If he performs like he can, he’ll really shut things down and solidify that Tampa bullpen. That’s a scary proposition for a team that’s got scary good talent.
• Evan Longoria was 1-for-4 with a home run. Clearly he honed his home run swing with all those video game commercials. Notice that Kevin Millwood was not one of the pitchers in the commercial who said how easy it was to get Longo out. Maybe he should talk to Justin Verlander.
