A check on the locals; Stony Brook and Hofstra fall

It wasn't the greatest week for Long Island's only Division I men's basketball programs.
Both Stony Brook and Hofstra have started losing streaks.
Stony Brook blew a 14-point lead against Maine in a 67-61 loss on Saturday. The Seawolves dropped to 11-7 and 3-2 in the America East. All isn't lost for the Seawolves, even though they've had a tough time winning road games this season. All seven of their losses have come on the road. The road woes notwithstanding, the Seawolves have proven they can beat any team in the America East. It's just of matter of doing it now. Stony Brook shouldn't have any issues recovering as it faces a 1-16 UMBC team on Monday.
Things are much worse for Hofstra, which has dropped three in a row and five of its last six. The Pride fell to 9-10 and 2-5 in the CAA after a 73-66 loss to William and Mary on Saturday. It was a lack of defense for Hofstra this time as William and Mary shot 51 percent from the field. Quinn McDowell and David Schneider each scored 22 points for the Tribe. Hofstra's road doesn't get any easier. The Pride host George Mason on Tuesday and travel to Philly for a showdown with Drexel on Saturday.
