Brandon Richardson hit a pair of free throws with 7.2 seconds left to seal host Nebraska's 70-67 upset of No. 3 Texas yesterday.
Nebraska hadn't beaten a team ranked in the top three since knocking off No. 3 Missouri in the 1994 Big Eight Conference tournament.
"Man, what a great game," Nebraska coach Doc Sadler said. "How can you not be excited? It's a great day for us."
The Cornhuskers' second win over a Top 25 opponent this season broke Texas' school record Big 12 winning streak at 11 games. Nebraska downed then-No. 13 Texas A&M, 57-48, on Jan. 29.
Richardson led Nebraska (18-8, 6-6 Big 12) with 15 points.
"There's no question Nebraska deserves all the credit because they were a terrific team today," Texas coach Rick Barnes said. "Doc Sadler is one of the great guys in this business, and it couldn't have happened to a better guy. If this helps them to the NCAA Tournament, then it would be great for him. The fans were great, and they definitely deserved to win the game."
Jordan Hamilton and J'Covan Brown each had 18 to top Texas (23-4, 11-1). Cory Joseph had 13.
Kansas 89, Colorado 63: Markieff Morris had 26 points and 15 rebounds as Kansas bounced back from a lopsided loss to Kansas State. Brady Morningstar hit his first four three-pointers to help the host Jayhawks (25-2, 10-2 Big 12) get off to a flying start after their brand-new No. 1 ranking was tarnished Monday night by a shocking 84-68 loss at the home of the unranked Wildcats.
Syracuse 84, Rutgers 80: Kris Joseph scored six of his 21 points in overtime for host No. 17 Syracuse. The game was tied at 70 after regulation, and Joseph gave the Orange (22-6, 9-6 Big East) a 75-71 lead when he curled off a screen and swished a feed from Brandon Triche.
BYU 79, TCU 56: Jimmer Fredette scored 23 points and the visiting Cougars (25-2, 11-1 Mountain West) had four other players score in double figures.
West Virginia 72, Notre Dame 58: Truck Bryant broke out of a slump with 24 points and host West Virginia took command early in the second half to snap the Irish's seven-game winning streak. Joe Mazzulla added 16 points for the Mountaineers (17-9, 8-6 Big East).
Villanova 77, DePaul 75: Corey Fisher had 34 points, nailing the tying three-pointer near the end of regulation and boosting the visiting Wildcats in overtime. Maalik Wayns added 17 points as Villanova (21-6, 9-5) escaped against the Big East's last-place team.
Vanderbilt 77, Auburn 60: John Jenkins scored 22 points and the visiting Commodores used a 23-4 second-half run to ensure their sixth 20-win campaign during coach Kevin Stallings' 12 season. Vanderbilt (20-6, 8-4 SEC) won its fifth straight game, pulling away after Auburn (9-17, 2-10) managed to tie it six minutes into the second half.
North Carolina 48, Boston College 46: Tyler Zeller scored 16 points, freshmen Kendall Marshall and Harrison Barnes had 10 each and the host Tar Heels held Boston College to a season-low for points. North Carolina (20-6, 10-2 ACC) overcame its lowest-scoring game under Roy Williams to reach the 20-win mark for the seventh straight season under him.
Missouri 76, Iowa State 70: Marcus Denmon scored 25 points as the Tigers won their first Big 12 road game of the season and first game away from Columbia since December. Laurence Bowers added 16 for the Tigers (21-6, 7-5 Big 12), who shot 19 of 24 from the free-throw line.
Kentucky 90, South Carolina 59: Darius Miller scored a career-high 22 points, Terrence Jones added 19 points and 12 rebounds, and the Wildcats remained unbeaten at Rupp Arena under John Calipari. Kentucky (19-7, 7-5 SEC) scored the game's first 14 points and led by as much as 36 to push its home winning streak to 32, the second-longest in school history.
