Durand Johnson scores 18, but St. John’s loses to Marquette

Durand Johnson scored 18 points with four three-pointers, but visiting St. John’s, which has lost seven straight including its first four Big East contests, fell to Marquette, 81-75, yesterday.
Luke Fischer scored 18 points, Henry Ellenson added 15 points with 10 rebounds as Marquette pulled away late.
Haanif Cheatham had 15 points and Duane Wilson 14 for Marquette (12-4, 2-2 Big East). Traci Carter chipped in six points and eight assists, and matched a career-best with four steals.
Mvouika made a three-pointer to tie it a 63-all with 4:44 left. Ellenson answered with a jumper to spark a 10-2 run and Marquette led 73-65 with a minute to play. Fischer scored four points with a block, Ellenson had two defensive rebounds, and St. John’s (7-10, 0-4) missed seven shots during the stretch.
Sima has broken hand
St. John’s freshman center Yankuba Sima has a fractured bone in his left hand and will be out 4 to 6 weeks. The school said Friday that the 6-11 native of Spain was examined by a hand specialist at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He injured his non-shooting hand in the first half Wednesday night against No. 10 Xavier and did not play in the second half of the 83-65 loss.
