Jeter's 26 lift SBU women in play-in game
Kirsten Jeter scored 26 points as the Stony Brook women's basketball team cruised past Maine, 76-55, Thursday night in an America East Conference Tournament play-in game at the Chase Arena in West Hartford, Conn.
Eighth-seeded SBU (7-22) plays top-seeded UMBC in a quarterfinal at 6 p.m. Friday night. Ninth-seeded Maine (4-25) was led by Brittany Williams' 13 points.
Jeter, who was named to the All-America East second team, added eight rebounds, five steals and four assists.
"Kirsten is one of the best players in the conference," Stony Brook interim coach Evelyn Thompson said of the senior. "When she's done, she's going to leave her mark on the conference."
It was the second straight blowout win for the Seawolves, who topped third-seeded Binghamton, 54-37, in their regular-season finale on Saturday.
Thompson likes what she's seeing from her team: "I think we're at the point in the season where we're really focused."
