NCAA: Bonnies winning A-10 cancels vote

Miami, Drexel and few other bubble teams can thank (or wish bad things on) St. Bonaventure for stealing a bid. The Bonnies knocking off Xavier in the Atlantic-10 Final on Sunday took away a bid, NCAA interim vice president Greg Shaheen said during a conference all.

There was one space left on the bracket before that game. Drexel, Miami, Oral Roberts, Nevada, Mississippi State and Seton Hall would have put to a vote for the final spot had Xavier won.

St. Bonaventure (20-11, 10-6 A-10) winning made the point moot. It will be the Bonnies’ first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2000. The Bonnies were not a bubble team. A loss might have sent them to the NIT.  

The Bonnies’ win also made it possible for the Atlantic-10 to get four teams into the field. St. Bonaventure joins Temple, St. Louis and Xavier in the tournament.

Based on the committee’s admission of the final spot, Seton Hall losing its final two games of the regular season and then falling to Louisville in the Big East Tournament was nail in the coffin.
