NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield has been named the Naismith men’s college basketball Player of the Year.

The award was announced Sunday, the day after Hield and OU were beaten by Villanova in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament.

Hield averaged 25 points per game during the season and had 12 30-point games. He was also named the Big 12 Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

He becomes the second Sooner to receive the award after Blake Griffin was honored in 2009.
