Big Ten teams flex muscle against weaker foes
Big Ten cupcakes
A week before conference play begins, the Big Ten flexed its muscle against hapless patsies as six ranked teams, playing at home, won by a combined 320-64 margin. Only No. 23 Penn State was tested, but its defense dominated in the second half and the Lions rallied to beat Temple, 22-13.
Dane Sanzenbacher tied two school records by catching four TD passes from Terrelle Pryor as No. 2 Ohio State swamped Eastern Michigan, 73-20 . . . No. 11 Wisconsin scored touchdowns on all seven first-half possessions in beating a Football Championship Subdivision team. Austin Peay, 70-3 . . . No. 18 Iowa got 115 yards rushing and 2 TDs from Adam Robinson to whip Ball State, 45-0 . . . QB Denard Robinson left the game with a twisted left knee (not believed to be serious) as No. 21 Michigan belted Bowling Green, 65-21 . . . and No. 25 Michigan State beat Northern Colorado, 45-7 (Story, Page A73).
Cadets no help
VMI brought 21 busloads of white-clad cadets to its game at Virginia, but it didn't help. Marc Verica's three first-half TD passes fueled the Cavaliers' 48-7 rout. - AP
