Coviello, Gosselin carry USMMA to victory

John-Leon Gosselin's 1-yard touchdown run gave host USMMA a 14-point lead and the Mariners held on to beat Rensselaer, 34-31, Saturday in Landmark Conference football.

Alex Coviello ran for 141 yards and three touchdowns for USMMA, which took control with a 21-point second quarter. Gosselin added 90 yards rushing and two TDs for the Mariners (3-2). Coviello's 3-yard touchdown put USMMA up 28-13 with 1:27 left in the second quarter.

Andrew Franks' 43-yard field goal pulled Rensselaer within five. Gosselin's touchdown made it 34-23 with 11:46 left before a touchdown pass by Mike Hermann (three touchdowns) and Rensselaer's two-point conversion created the final margin with 1:27 left.
