No. 6 Nassau CC remains unbeaten, beats another ranked team
Another week, another win over a nationally ranked team for Nassau CC.
Travis Lock ran for 130 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries as host No. 6 Nassau CC remained undefeated with a 38-20 win over No. 20 Dean in a Northeast Conference football game Saturday.
Nassau CC, which beat then-ranked No. 24 Georgia Military last week, is 8-0 overall, 4-0 in the conference. Dean is 5-3, 3-2.
Troy Jones completed 17 of 27 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown and ran for 35 yards and a score on 10 carries for Nassau CC. Bruce Parker had two interceptions and Marc Mauro had one.
USMMA 28, Worcester Polytechnic 13: Quarterback Alex Coviello rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns as host USMMA scored 28 straight points in a Liberty League matchup.
Skyler Stone got his fourth interception of the season, tying him for the top spot in the conference for USMMA (4-4, 2-3). WPI is 1-6, 1-4.
USMMA limited WPI to 212 total yards of offense and forced three turnovers. Matt Jernigan and Christopher Oehl had fumble recoveries. Merchant Marine dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 38 minutes, 21 seconds, including more than 21 minutes in the second half.
WPI opened the scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run by Chris Turner to cap a 12-play, 65-yard drive. But USMMA immediately answered with a 13-play drive capped by a 2-yard TD run by Coviello. He also picked up a fourth-and-1 run on the drive. Mario Colangelo led USMMA with 92 rushing yards.
It was tied at 7 at halftime, and on the Mariners' first drive of the second half, Colangelo and Coviello had big runs to set up a 5-yard touchdown run by Matthew McDaniels. It was McDaniels' first career touchdown.
