LSU-Alabama Round 2 is just a few victories away.

A weekend filled with upsets left the SEC rivals in the top two spots in the BCS standings released yesterday.

And Arkansas is third, further increasing the possibility of an all-SEC BCS championship game Jan. 9 in New Orleans that would be a rematch of a regular-season game.

If the Tigers can beat Arkansas on Friday, then Georgia in the SEC title game Dec. 3, and the Crimson Tide beats Auburn on Saturday, it's almost a lock that LSU-Alabama will play again.

LSU beat Alabama, 9-6, in overtime Nov. 6 in Tuscaloosa.

Oklahoma State, which suffered the most surprising loss of the weekend, fell to fourth place.

Arkansas player dies

Arkansas says Razorbacks tight end Garrett Uekman has died.

The university said in a statement that Uekman was pronounced dead at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville yesterday afternoon.

The cause of death wasn't immediately known, and police and officials wouldn't comment until all of Uekman's family had been notified.

The 19-year-old Uekman redshirted last season for the Razorbacks but had seen limited action this season as a freshman.

Miami bans itself

Miami is not going to a bowl this season, self-imposing a ban that school officials say was "necessary" in response to an ongoing NCAA investigation into the university's compliance practices.

The move was not unexpected, though coach Al Golden said Saturday night he was unaware of any discussions about Miami removing itself from bowl consideration. Less than 24 hours later, the school announced it had informed both the NCAA and the ACC of its decision.

Columbia fires coach

Columbia fired football coach Norries Wilson the day after the Lions beat Brown to avoid a winless season. Athletic director M. Dianne Murphy announced the move in a release from the school. Wilson was hired after the 2005 season and went 5-5 to start his career at Columbia. His overall record was 17-43, 10-32 in the Ivy.
