NFLEagles ax Westbrook
Former All-Pro running back Brian Westbrook was released Tuesday by the Eagles, ending a dynamic eight-year run marred by injuries. Westbrook led the league in yards from scrimmage with 2,104 in 2007, but he missed eight games last season with two concussions and an ankle injury. He was due $7.25 million next season.
Coach Andy Reid called Westbrook "one of the greatest Eagles of all time, and he is an even better person and leader.''
NBAHoward's season over
The Wizards said forward Josh Howard is done for the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
BASEBALLBoone retires
Infielder Aaron Boone announced his retirement from baseball, and at the same time, ESPN said it had hired him as a studio analyst and occasional game analyst.
