Western Illinois University football player to be bone marrow donor for infant with rare disorder

MACOMB, Ill. -- A linebacker for Western Illinois University's football team is set to become a most valuable player for an infant with a rare immune disorder.

The school said Monday that 20-year-old sophomore Jordan Veloz signed up last year during a bone marrow registry drive on campus. He filled out paperwork and had a few swabs taken from the inside his mouth so that his DNA could be placed in a national bone marrow registry.

The player was informed last month that he might be a match and then this month he was told that he was a match.

He says he doesn't know the infant but he hopes to meet the child someday.
