LI college sports roundup: LIU's Ryan Blume headed to PLL's Archers

LIU men’s lacrosse defenseman Ryan Blume was claimed by the Archers of the Premier Lacrosse League on Friday night. Blume played five seasons for LIU and led the Sharks with 22 caused turnovers this past season. The Eastchester, New York, native recorded 186 ground balls, 69 caused turnovers, 15 goals and nine assists over 63 career games. “It was definitely very exciting receiving the phone call,” Blume said. “I’m very grateful for this opportunity and thankful for the support of LIU, my teammates, coaches and family. I’m hoping to take this one step at a time and do whatever I can to help the Archers to a championship.”

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

USMMA 19, Springfield 13: Jessie Wohner had five goals and two assists to lead USMMA (14-2, 7-0 Skyline) in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament. Jenna Turrentine and Jaqui Sheedy added four goals apiece and Kaitlyn Latchaw had one goal and four assists.

SOFTBALL

Adelphi 4, Caldwell 3: Faith Camilleri went 2-for-3 and hit a walk-off RBI single in a four-run seventh inning to lead Adelphi to the NCAA Division II East Super Regional. Kendall Winn’s RBI single tied the score at 3. Camilleri went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI, and Kendall Winn went 1-for-1 with an RBI to lead the Panthers (45-12, 22-4 NE10) to a 2-0 victory in game one. Claire Fon struck out four and allowed seven hits over six shutout innings to earn the win.

BASEBALL

USMMA 4, Farmingdale 3: Noah Herdman drove in Brayden O’Connell on a walk-off single in the tenth inning of USMMA’s win over Farmingdale in the Skyline Conference tournament. Jack Millen and Joey Zanetti each added one RBI. Vincent Napolitano hit a game-tying RBI single for Farmingdale in the ninth inning. USMMA (26-17, 13-7 Skyline) will face the winner of Farmingdale and St. Joseph’s (LI) on Sunday in the championship.

Molloy wins second straight East Coast Conference crown. Peter Theodorellis went 2-for-6 with three RBIs and struck out seven batters in four shutout innings of relief to lead Molloy (36-12) to its second straight East Coast Conference title. Matt Overton went 3-for-4 and doubled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. Anthony Manisero singled in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning of Molloy’s 6-5 win in game one of the championship series. Patrick Hoffman drove in the tying run earlier in the eighth. Garrett Scavelli went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and Brian Morrisey allowed one run in seven innings of relief to earn the win.

Hofstra 6, James Madison 5: Jake Liberatore hit a walk-off three-run home run in the ninth to lead Hofstra (25-21, 14-9 CAA) in the Colonial Athletic Association. Liberatore went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Steve Harrington went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored and Brian Morrell and Michael Florides each drove in a run.

Stony Brook 7, Binghamton 5: Matt Brown-Eiring had three RBIs and hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the ninth to lead Stony Brook (25-23, 19-7 AE) over Binghamton in an America East matchup. Derek Yalon went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and tied the game at 5 with a RBI single in the eighth. Josh O’Neill struck out three batters and allowed one run in five innings of relief to earn the win.

Fairleigh Dickinson 5, LIU 2: Joan Sosa hit a three-run triple in the top of the tenth inning to lead Farleigh Dickinson over LIU in Northeast Conference play. Colin Adams and EJ Exposito each hit a solo home run and Jalen Wade allowed one run on one hit in six innings for LIU (30-17, 15-8 NEC).
