North Carolina kicks Marvin Austin off team

North Carolina announced on Monday that star defensive tackle Marvin Austin has been dismissed from the football team due to violations of NCAA agent benefits, preferential treatment and ethical conduct rules.

Austin had been suspended indefinitely since Sept. 1 for violating team rules.

Meanwhile, there's more information on wide receiver Greg Little and defensive end Robert Quinn. Both players have been ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA.

The NCAA student-athlete reinstatement staff made the decision on Little and Quinn on Monday. Austin's case was not submitted for reinstatement.

The NCAA news release on Little and Quinn cites information the university submitted as facts in the two cases:

-- Little's benefits were valued at approximately $4,952. The benfits included diamond earrings, travel accomodations to the Bahamas and Washington, D.C., and two trips to Miami, among other benefits.

-- Quinn's benefits were valued at approximately $5.642. The benefits included two black diamond watches, a pair of matching earrings and travel accomodations to Miami, among other benefits.

The NCAA said that information gathered by North Carolina and the NCAA Agent, Gambling and Amateurism staff indicates that Little and Quinn provided "false and misleading information" in three separate interviews.
